Bahamas August 2021

In June of 2021, my Pawrde bought us a vacation home in the Bahamas. He always talks about how much he loves the sun and the water and now we can be surrounded by both when we are there. My favorite thing about the Bahamas is the Cheeto Puffs. Just kidding. I like to chase lizards in our backyard (by the sea) and birds on the beach (oceanside). We are learning a lot about the wildlife here and the amazing sea life. Did you know that the Bahamas has an endangered species called the Cyclura Rileyi? Cool name, eh? Our first trip to the Bahamas was just to settle in. My Auntie Dee and Uncle Vic came with us to help us get everything set up. Our furniture and stuff didn't arrive on time so we just spent the week trying to figure out where to get what on the island. We learned a lot about buying food, bread, plants and other stuff humans need to get a house going. We also learned that sand fleas are horrible when it's hot outside, early morning, at dusk and when it's too dry outside. Thank you Benadryl for the itch relief. Everyone was suffering from the bites.
My Mawdre found a vet clinic in a place called Rock Sound where I will go if there are any emergencies when I am in the Bahamas. I also got to virtually meet Dr. Smith from Nassau who was a Godsend to my Mawdre when I started scratching my ear and irritated it so much that I needed some drops and meds to help me feel better. PAWS UP to Dr. Smith for his spectacular support. My Mawdre said that Dr. Smith was super helpful, super nice and she said that we would pay his blessing forward. I know she will do it. She's like that. One cool thing that we did with Auntie Dee and Uncle Vic was start cleaning up the sea side behind our house. We filled an entire black bag with garbage that was on the sand that the tide had brought in. We picked up broken bottles, plastics, shredded aluminum cans, shoes, and other things that could and might have harmed sea life. Every day when my Mawdre takes me outback to pee/poo, we take a walk on the sand and see what the tide has brought in. We always come back with as much trash as we can find. We feel like we are doing our part. I heard my pawents talking about buying and painting a can that we can place near the poolhouse so we can continue this initiative. Everyone on the island is super nice. We have met so many people and we are making lots of friends. Everyone has been super helpful in helping us get everything done that we need to. A special thanks to Vincent aka "Burns", Delvin, Eddie, Sammy, Sais, Rhonda, Daniel, Lenny, Jackson, Keith 1 and Keith 2, Lionel, Pierre and many thanks to our neighbor, Tony who helped us figure out how to get mail and told us when to put out the trash. My pawents reach out to him a lot with questions and he is super patient with them. We are lucky to have such a great neighbor. Enjoy some pics from our first trip to the Bahamas and if you ever visit us here, watch out for crabs on the road...they like to cross all roads here and many don't make it. I wish people would drive carefully and slower so they would stop killing them.

El Sol House

Life in the Bahamas

Gallery of Friends

This is Harry, my little foster brother from The Fabulous Bahamian Five. He is a Royal Bahamian Potcake. He has found a forever home in Halifax. Our cousin, Nikita and her Daddy, Vincent came over to relax and play with us. We are having a fun time.

Our Eleuthera Family

This is my Uncle, Delvin. He's the coolest guy on the island. Delvin helps me with everything I need and loves me very much.

Las Palmas (September 2021)

In September 2021, we started getting some coconut palms planted at the house. Cliff and the crew did a fabulous job. We now have over 21 palms at El Sol. They all have names too. We have a lime tree named Dee as well. Below are some pictures of when we started the coconut palm work. I supervised of course because I am the boss.

Eye Surgery (September 2021

In 2021, I had an accident and hurt my eye. I am. not sure how it happened and my pawents couldn't figure out exactly how or when I did it, but it got serious quick. We visited the vet here on the island, but there was nothing she could do for me. It took two trips off the island and many weeks of recovery, but the doctors all did a fabulous job and they were able to save my eye and my vision. After the first surgery, I rubbed off the sutures so they had to do some more work on it in Florida. It was quite an experience and I gave my pawents quite a scare. My mawdr panicks easily. What can I say. She worries about me a lot. My doctor that performed the first surgery was awesome. He finished the surgery in a couple of hours and I got to rest for a bit before we flew home the next morning. Thankfully, my pawdre handled all the flights and logistics because mawdre was a complete mess. She cried a lot and did a lot of the worrying. She hates to see us babies suffering in any way. A year later, my eye is fully recovered and I can see everything around me. <3 Riley
